Convocation

Rather than immediately jump into writing today’s track after finishing yesterday’s, I decided to take the night off and hang out with the neighbors, go to bed early, and get some more sleep. While Mary’s gone, I’ve been trending more and more toward doing the bulk of the work on the day it gets posted instead of doing most of it the day before with only a quick polish in the morning. Part of my reason for working ahead is that it takes some of the pressure off – I always have a little slop time at the end if … Continue reading

Lights in the Mist

Another night with far less sleep than I was hoping. I think I managed to go to be at 2am after working on Revenant. I finished that track up in the morning and posted it, then spent most of the day with Olive (the dog). We returned to the dog park, this time without her Great Dane friend, and she was a bit more adventurous and inqisitive. My new branding slogan is Tomorrow’s Music Today! In most ways, nothing is different. I still need to write a track today. I will, in all likelihood, still be up until 2 or 3 in the morning. But when I get up tomorrow, my song for the day will already be done and I can work on the next day. It’s exactly the same, except I don’t feel like I’m late. … Continue reading

A Star Never Setting

Today’s track is much more in line with what I thought I was going to write yesterday. It combines some of my favorite things: granular synthesis, treated pianos, and long tape-style delays. Obviously, this one is heavily inspired by Brian Eno’s Music for Airports, almost getting into pastiche territory. Not that that’s inherently a bad thing – my track Tyrell’s Balcony was a love letter to the Vangelis Blade Runner soundtrack, but it’s also something I’m proud to have created. Part of my motivation to write these kinds of tracks is because I love the music and want more of … Continue reading
