Olive’s First Snow

Today was even more of a “my mind is blank” day than yesterday. After a couple of hours of false starts, I started wondering if maybe I’m out of steam. I don’t want to write about anything current or political because… well, I just don’t want to deal with the intolerance of people who disagree with me and I’ve found that a lot of the stuff I do in that direction isn’t as incisive or poetic as I’d like it to be. I’m not recharged enough for another ambient or cinematic piece. Joy in the Snow We’d had a decent … Continue reading

Wintry Mix

The first real winter storm of the season has arrived. In an effort to get one more exercise session in prior to the snow and ice showing up, Olive and I went to the dog park right after breakfast, and it started snowing while we were there. I wasn’t expecting anything to stick, much less stay frozen for long, but the buildup was surprisingly fast and by the time we got back home, I was already having a few traction issues driving the truck.2Later in the day, I would experiment with 4×4 mode on … Continue reading

Convocation

Rather than immediately jump into writing today’s track after finishing yesterday’s, I decided to take the night off and hang out with the neighbors, go to bed early, and get some more sleep. While Mary’s gone, I’ve been trending more and more toward doing the bulk of the work on the day it gets posted instead of doing most of it the day before with only a quick polish in the morning. Part of my reason for working ahead is that it takes some of the pressure off – I always have a little slop time at the end if … Continue reading

Me and Hank

After finishing The Gathering, I was directionless. No idea what to do. Also, the week has been getting long and while the dog has been pretty well-behaved and accommodating of my musical endeavors, I’ve been getting tired early. I came up with the basic hook of the song and then decided that that was good enough. It’s time for bed. I was asleep before 11pm, which is a rarity. Even better, Olive let me sleep through the night. Olive is a Berger Picard,2behr-ZHAY … Continue reading

The Gathering

Wow. Full disclosure – I’m writing this entry on February 15 (and will be doing so for the next few). Mary was on business travel for a full seven days, so I’ve been taking care of our new puppy, Olive. She’s currently nine months old, and I’ll be writing about her more extensively in a later post, so just suffice to say that I’m behind on the blog. I’ve also given up on trying to also write entries for 2024… that will have to wait for March. I really enjoyed writing Lights in the Mist and, after posting it, the … Continue reading
