Blue Dog

Even more Lo-Fi! Honestly, I’m enjoying doing these and know they’ll be good playlist fodder in the future. As with my ambient stuff, the hardest part is often naming them.

There’s not a ton to talk about in this one, though there is one fun trick that came from XO. The extreme panning in the electric piano part is happening as part of one of the XO beats. I’m using it as a sample player instead of just as a drum machine. The irony of this being “novel” is that back in the day, this is how I did everything. In this particular case, the panning is happening on the individual electric piano samples. I like that the effect doesn’t really overwhelm too much when listening over speakers, but it’s also really present in headphones. It gives the piece two very different feelings. I also did some additional panning with the always-entertaining Output Movement.

There’s a lot going on in this deceptively simple piece, but none of it is so demanding that it distracts from the groove and vibe. It’s a great track for sitting on the patio, sipping on something cool, and watching the day flow by.
